Dear Premier Savage:
I am deeply concerned about recent decisions by your Government regarding
the Parks and Protected Areas Systems Plan, the atmosphere those decisions
have fostered in theProvince, and the general lack of progress by the Province
in implementing the Parksand Protected Areas Systems Plan.
Specifically, I protest:
Cabinet's removal of the Jim Campbells Barrens from the Parks and Protected
Areas Systems Plan.
The slow pace toward implementation of the Parks and Protected Areas
Systems Plan.
The lack of specific legislation to protect these areas.
The unwillingness of the Department of Natural Resources to defend the
Parks and Protected AreasSystems Plan.
Your Government's actions exhibit a complete lack of respect for the
recommendations of thepublic process in which the citizens of Nova Scotia
participated.
I urge you to provide the leadership so urgently needed to protect
all 31 sites, and the inclusion of the Tobeatic Finger within the plan,
as recommended by the public review process for the benefitof future generations.
